100 Embankment

June 11, 2021

Meridian Fire & Security were employed to commission the fire alarm and disabled refuge systems at the new-build 100 Embankment building in central Manchester in early 2020, with a completion due at the end of June 2020.

We worked closely alongside A&B Engineering from Liverpool and BAM Construction. This was a particularly challenging project due to the initial outbreak of Covid-19. Thanks to the Government’s recommendations a system was put into place to allow work to continue throughout the pandemic in a safe manner. Not only was the project itself handed over on time, we managed to complete our commissioning of the life safety systems early, keeping numbers of staff on site to a minimum.

The brands chosen were Fireclass for the fire, detection and alarm system with phased evacuation. The system also interfaced with fire curtains, mechanical plant, access control, auto doors, lifts, multiple BMS control panels and AOV systems.

Cameo was used for the Emergency Voice Communications also incorporating the accessible toilet alarms, all into one system. This was the first time we’d used this system and were very impressed with how user and engineer friendly it is.
